WORKBOND DELINQUENT MEMBERS – WARNING!The season is getting short and the following listed members have not fulfilled their 2004 Work bond responsibilities. Work bonds MUST be fulfilled in the current year. Delinquent members will be dropped as of December 31. There is a lot of work to be done and over 250 people cannot easily be accommodated on the October work weekend, so members on this list should contact the work bond coordinator, Dave Paananen at 303 673-0106 or email dpaananen AT netzero.net very soon. If you have done your work and we have not received credit, or if you want to be excused under any of the conditions shown on the slip which accompanied your work bond card mailing last winter, please call Martin Everitt 303 425-4450. Otherwise you must do a day of work or pay $100 in lieu of the work, preferably before November 1, so we will have time to complete the club records before the end of the year. Is your name on the list from page 1? Want to know what to do about it? To follow are some work bond opportunities! Workbond UpdateThere are a good number of club members still needing to complete their workbond obligation. If you’re a member who hasn’t yet met the workbond requirement, below are a list of dates and events that need your help. The number of matches needing help is winding down. The list below contains all of the match volunteer opportunities remaining this year. A great deal of effort goes into maintaining membership lists and getting information out to the members. This becomes a lot of work at the end of the year. The club requests you complete your workbond by Nov. 1st, in order to give the volunteers who keep track of membership and workbond completion time to do their work. If you have time during the week, check out the single person task list in the Stat Office, or on the CRC web site. The fall work weekend is scheduled for October 23 and 24. These work opportunities, or paying the club the optional $100, should allow everyone a chance to take care of their workbond, but please attend to it soon.
Or if building is more your bag, here are some other ways to meet your workbond. CRC NEEDS . . .Someone to build a glass front display case for CRC T-Shirts, hats, cups and other merchandise which would be hung on the wall of the stat building (inside). The case ought to be about three feet square and 4 inches deep, with a glass front and lock. Call John Ashcraft 720-261-7125 for information on display space needed and Dave Paananen 303 673-0106 for materials. The club will reimburse materials and will trade two years Work Bond for the case when finished. Also, we need someone to cut the rear end off the burned out pickup near the barn and build a trailer on it to carry the 300-gallon water tank that is also in the barn. Again, we will reimburse materials and expenses and will trade three years work bond for the trailer. Call Dave Paananen for more information. Fence Party! Dave John needs help fixing some of the fencing around the CRC property. Saturday, September 18; Saturday, October 9 and Saturday, October 23. Contact Dave John at email treefort6@yahoo.com for more information or to volunteer. DUES DELINQUENT MEMBERSThe following listed members are delinquent on their 2004 dues according to club records. If your name is on this list you will be dropped from the club at the end of the year unless you catch up by paying $50 for an individual member or $75 for a family membership plus a $20 late payment penalty, before November 1. Members on active military duty, or others who are inactive because of job pressures, health, etc., may request transfer to the inactive list until they are able to participate again. Those on the inactive list retain their membership, but will not receive a current card or the newsletter, and should not use the facilities until they resume activity. Bailey, V M, 1012; Blain, Brennon L., 470; Brenneman, Mark L., 1193; Brumfield, Alan D., 804; Buschy, Christopher L., 1009; Coker, Paul T., 593; Erickson, Woodrow A., 142; Fleming, Kevin M., 1297; Fletcher, Dan W., 1340; Glance, Jeffrey J., 1334; Godette, Earl, 1269; Hardy, Harold L., 196; Hernandez, Joe, 1005; Hess, Shannon A., 1075; Leczel, Michael, 1120; Marsh, Dean J., 1186; McGowan, Gordon W., 1316; Metzger, Paul D., 1008; Phillips, Roger A., 481; Shaffer, Eric P., 1171; Tribelhorn, Myron A., 166; Turner, Michael L., 1014; Wagner, Darrell R., 997; Wagner, James J., 716; Weeks, Benjamin J., 1249. HUNTERS SAFETYCRC is once again hosting two Hunters Safety Course sessions, Saturday & Sunday September 11th & 12th; and October 2nd & 3rd. The Colorado Division of Wildlife manages the Hunter Education program assisted by approximately 500 Volunteer instructors. The instructors receive 2 years of training before being certified as an Instructor. CRC is privileged to have Leonard Avery as their Hunter Education Instructor. Avery has been teaching Hunter Education and Firearm Safety since 1968 and has reached the rank of Master Instructor. The total number of students he has taught now runs more than 10,000. For this class, Leonard and his son Trent (also a CRC member) put up a 3½ mile walk through the woods for the students. Set along the walk will be deer, antelope coyotes and various animal models for the students to see and decide whether it would be safe for them to shoot at that animal. Also, examples of survival shelters will be constructed for the student to see and remember if they ever find themselves in a survival situation. A herd of Elk is persuaded to wander across the road and everyone will learn tracking and follow the elk to see their destination. After lunch and some films, the class will go for some sporting clay shooting. The next day the .22 LR rifles will get their workout and maybe even the muzzleloaders. Because the class will take the whole weekend, students that live a long distance from the range are welcome and encouraged to camp out on the campsites available at the CRC Range. (Electric hookups are available. The $5 for using them is not covered in the cost of the course). This year the grass is very high in the field and woods, and there is also still a healthy mosquito and biting bug population outside. Students should wear long pants and long sleeved shirts. Also wear sturdy walking or hiking shoes. Boots are best, as there are cacti out there that may be hidden by taller foliage. Bring your lunch, water and canteen or water bottle, insect repellent, sun block and hat, notebook, pen, and a small backpack to carry books and items in while out in the field. You’ll need your hands free to carry a small safety rifle. Learning to properly and safely carry your gun while hunting is very much part of the training. Class will begin each morning at 8:00am and the day should run till about 5:00pm. Meet at the Stat Building on the Smallbore range each day. There is a $10 per person fee for the class. That fee includes two days of instruction, and the books and texts required. The sessions will wrap up with the Hunter Safety written examination. If you have questions about this program or would like to sign up, please contact Leonard Avery at (303) 452-0728. All in all everyone will have fun for a weekend being in the field and woods. And that is what hunting is all about isn’t it? WINNERS CIRCLE SPECIAL EDITIONCongratulations and good luck to two Shooters who have long been a part of the Junior Team at the Arvada Rifle & Pistol Club. Greg Youngs has been accepted to the US Naval Academy Annapolis, and Harry Gauthier has been accepted to the US Military Academy at West Point. Both are excellent shooters and will hopefully continue their shooting careers as part of their training. Good luck guys! You make all your CRC fans proud! HOOYAH! Another kind of Civic DutyMember Randy Swan won the Republican nomination for the CU Board of Regents. Denver residents ought to look at his web site swan-sight.org. Congratulations and good luck, Randy! Smallbore Rifle Report from the National Matches at Camp PerryMy faith in the balance of the universe has been restored. Last year, people said that for the smallbore portion of the National Matches as Camp Perry, the weather was the best they’d ever seen. To prove it, a perfect 3200 was fired in the any-sight phase of the prone match. Well, just to show there is no up without a down, Keith Roberts, Norm Austen and the Junior Team from the Arvada Rifle & Pistol Club that once again made the cross-country journey to the National Matches, report that it was the worst weather any of them had ever shot in. EVER. Rain nearly every day, 40 mile per hour winds, and when the rain did finally stop for the final two days of shooting the mosquitoes were more like flocks of birds rather than swarms of bugs. Despite harrowing conditions, the Junior Team gutted it out and did AWESOME! Keith and Norm had another good group which included Mike Awalt, Taylor Beard, Harry Gauthier, Davin, Kurt, and Robert Livo, Katie Mullen, Peter Reul and Tamera Reul. (sorry if I forgot anybody!) A good mixture of Camp Perry veterans, first timers, and sacrificial parents! The weather was so bad they didn’t ever get to finish firing the 3-position matches. But the teams obviously acclimated fine. In the Whistler Boy Team Championship, Harry Gauthier and Taylor Beard were 3rd place overall. Mike Awalt and Tamera Reul were 5th and Kurt Livo and Katie Mullen 10th! Three of the top ten teams in the Nation! Not bad eh? In the regular team matches, Harry, Taylor, Mike and Tamera were the First Place Expert prone team in Iron Sights and 2nd place in any-sights. And Robert, Kurt, Davin and Katie were the 1st Place Sharpshooter team in Iron sights and 5th in any-sights. In the Randall Doubles Team Mentor Match, the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM was Harry Gautheir and Peter Reul. They beat out team Beyerle/Pestilli by one X! WOW!!!! Individually they all did well too. Harry was the first place Junior Sharpshooter in the any-sight, and Coach Norm Austen won first in the Civilian Marksman prone any-sight match. So even though they suffered, they succeeded, and that’s the best way to win a championship. Good shooting everybody! (I’d also like to note that this years Prone National Champion is Jamie Beyerle. She’s the National champ, the Civilian, Woman and Junior Champ too! And she shot the entire match with iron sights I’ve said it ever since the days when I was one…junior girls are the best shooters. Period!) Back to School TimeParents, are you looking for a sport for your kid that offers physical and mental conditioning; requires focus and responsibility, teaches self reliance AND teamwork, has great prospects for college participation and beyond, all without requiring your kid to go head to head bodily with the behemoth from down the street? Shooting is the answer! They learn to take care of equipment, compete as a team, how to win physically and mentally, and they have a great time doing it. There are a few clubs in the Metro area that have Junior Shooting Programs. Why not get your kid involved in a sport you can actually enjoy with them? Call the clubs below for more information. Arvada Rifle & Pistol Club: Coaches Keith Roberts (303) 425-6182 or Norm Austen (303) 467-9757. Boulder Rifle Club: Coach Mitch Mooman (303) 651-0608 or Mike Walton (303) 757-4304 Cherry Creek Gun Club: Coach Gary Trisdale (303) 367-8733. Five dollars per gun, no time limit, Assistance, tools, scopes, sandbags, etc available. Olympic Notes:Congratulations to the entire USA shooting team on their performance in Athens. There were some surprising “mental errors”, but everyone gave it (forgive me) their best shot. The team brought back 3 medals. Matt Emmons: Gold, Mens Prone; Kim Rhode: Gold, Womens Double Trap; and Mike Anti: Silver, Mens 3-P! Reports are that the conditions at Athens were very windy and it was tough shooting, especially for the shotgun shooters. Visit www.usashooting.org for all the details.
