ANNUAL MEETING

The Dinner and Annual meeting is a Colorado Rifle Club traditional event that is an opportunity to meet and become acquainted with your fellow CRC members and socialize with your fellow shooters during the winter when range activity is minimal. The dinner promises to be a gala affair at the same site as last year. This is the same catering staff that had prepared fine dinners for our meetings years ago before the old location of Captain Blye’s changed ownership. There will be a cash bar available and a choice of Prime Rib or Chicken Cordon Bleu for $20.00 per person including tax and gratuity.

The officers and directors will recap the milestones of the club this past year and discuss future endeavors for the coming years. This is also an opportunity for the members to tell the officers and directors what they would like the club to be doing. If you have ideas that you think will improve the club, this is a forum to present your ideas.      One of the primary agenda items of the annual meeting is the election of three members of the Board of Directors. Incumbents who are facing reelection this year are Ron Best, Steve Kingcade, and Dave John. Suggestions for candidates should be referred to Harold “Tony” Stahl, 303 494-5721, the nominating chairman. Candidates must have belonged to the club for a minimum of five years and must be willing to serve if elected. If you have an idea or want to be considered yourself, please call Tony. Nominations may be made from the floor in addition to those proposed by the committee, but floor nominees must be present to state that they will serve, or send a letter before the meeting stating that. The candidates will have an opportunity to make a statement before the voting and may face questions from the membership. All members who have belonged to the club for at least one year may vote.

A dinner reservation form is included with this mailing that you can return or call Ron Best, crci@comcast.net 303 986-0836 to sign up.

Reservations must be received by February 19th. Spouses, families and friends are invited. Get acquainted with your fellow shooters.

You can attend the meeting without a dinner reservation but a seating reservation is requested for the meeting only.

DUES NOTICES

The 2007 Dues Notices were mailed shortly after the first of the year. A slightly different format was used this year to clarify the amounts owed by our renewing members and to help the persons recording the payments identify who the payment was from and accurately record the amount. We did this using the resources and systems that we have in place and for the most part seems to have simplified the dues paying process. There has been some confusion from those who mailed their dues prior to the first of the year. The payment notice still showed the renewal amount of dues and did not reflect the payment that was received. This was due to two factors; the payment crossed in the mail, and more importantly, we weren’t able to reflect the early payment prior to the mailing. We hope to correct this in future years and apologize for any misunderstandings.

RECORD CHANGES

The dues notice includes space to report address changes, phone numbers, e-mail, membership type and other pertinent items. Please report those things that are different from what the label shows or have changed in the last year. We do not want to lose track of you as every year there are some members who simply disappear

LIABILITY WAIVER

Last year at the direction of our legal consul and our insurance companies, the Board passed a requirement that all club members and visitors and guests at the range must sign a Liability Release Waiver. Of the over 600 liability waivers signed by members, visitors and guests, more than 100 were discarded because the signer could not be identified. Reasons were the printed name was not legible or address not readable or without a member number to identify the person signing the release. The Board voted to require a new form from all members. The forms included in the dues mailing have an address label. Please sign and return this with your dues so we can assure that all members have completed a liability release waiver.

HELP WANTED

There are several openings that need to be filled. Volunteers are needed to assist with the newsletter mailings during the year. The secretary/treasurer periodically would like members to help with the filing of club records and documents. He also needs a helper or two to assist with the check-in of people at the 2007 Dinner and Annual Meeting. If you think that you can meet the requirements and would like work bond credit, contact Dennis Reul, 303 238-5696 denreul@comcast.net or Ron Best, 303 986-0836 crci@comcast.net

NEW WORK BOND RULES APPROVED BY THE BOARD

At the end of every year we have confusion and a scramble as members attempt to complete their work bond responsibility. After much effort to resolve the issues we end up losing a number of members. We don’t want to lose the members and have continued to strive to make policies and guidelines that are easier to follow and adhere to. Two issues seem to be at the heart of every discussion on work bonds:

First, members don’t always remember that the work bond is a part of their membership responsibility that must be fulfilled either by work or payment of a $100 in lieu or work unless they are excused.

And secondly, while the club must provide the opportunities for work, the member has the responsibility to do the work or make payment instead of work and assure that it is reported it to the secretary/treasurer.

At the December meeting the Board of Directors revised the work bond policy and guidelines to make it easier for members to fulfill and report their accomplishments. Briefly stated, the policy is now:

1. All members have a Work Bond responsibility   except:

·        Over age 65 beginning with the year they reach that age,

·        Members residing outside Colorado,

·        Members of the Military on active duty.

·        New members who attend an orientation after August 1 not required for that year.

·        Other reasons as approved by the BoD.

It is the member’s responsibility to inform the Secretary of any changes in their situation.

2.         Any member may apply to the BoD for exemption or to be excused for one or more years, for good cause. This can be any extenuating circumstance.

3.         On April 1 of each year any member who has not paid their dues for the current year or fulfilled their work bond obligation from the previous year shall be dropped from membership. Members dropped will be notified by first class mail. They may apply to rejoin the club as new members. Note that a signed liability waiver is also a membership requirement.

4.         The Work Bond Manager can authorize more than a one year of work bond credit for specialized work, multiple days of work, or the donation of items useful to the club.

Formerly the cut off date for payment in lieu of work bond was December 31. Members who had not done their work bond or paid were dropped at year-end. This always created a time problem for the club to update the records and purge the membership roles at the end of the year. . The new policy extends the time for payment to April 1st of the following year. Under the new policy, members will receive a dues notice at the first of the year that will show the dues owed and include the work bond payment for the previous year if their work bond was not fulfilled. Dues must be paid in full by April 1 at which time they will be dropped from the club. Note that while payment for work bond can be made up to April 1, actual work done for the club must be done before November 1 of the previous year unless arrangements are made in advance.
