?Date? Clinic/New Shooter Match - 80 shot
Clinic conducted by Colorado Rifle Club at Byers, CO
Purpose: to introduce new shooters to the sport
of tournament rifle shooting; to provide an opportunity for civilians
to develop a degree of proficiency with the service rifle and to instruct
individuals in the proper operation of the range, pits and statistical
office, and shooting the service rifle at 600 yards.
Open to: All new shooters, unclassified shooters
and as a refresher course for those who wish to re-familiarize themselves
with this sporting event. Minimum age 15 years (No small children
may shoot). Classified shooters are encouraged to volunteer
their services for this instructional event.
Instruction: Subjects to be covered in the
clinic will include the following: safety and purposes of rules
and their application during matches; duties and responsibilities of competitors;
the NRA Classification System; equipment; range control and commands;
marking and scoring system; aiming, positions, trigger control, rapid
fire, sight adjustment; effect of weather; zeroing; use of score book
and use of the spotting scope.
Note: Saturday shooting course - Earn 50 record
shots required for eligibility toward purchase of CMP M1 Garand.

Remember - as a new or unclassified shooter, in order to
shoot on Sunday, you should attend the clinic and individual practice
firing on Saturday. Think SAFETY FIRST, LAST and ALWAYS!
Course of Fire: National Match Course
(50 shots)
200 Yards 10 shots, slow fire, standing, with 2 sighters
all in 12 minutes.
200 Yards 10 shots, rapid fire, sitting or kneeling
from standing, 60 seconds with 2 sighters in 2 minutes.
300 Yards 10 shots, rapid fire, prone from standing,
70 seconds with 2 sighters in 2 minutes.
600 Yards 20 shots, slow fire, prone, with 2 sighters
all in 22 minutes.
The 80-shot Regional Course Match is 20 shots for each of
the four stages.
Ammo and Rifles: Each shooter must furnish their own
accessory equipment* (see below). CMP Garand M1 .30-.06 and AR-15
rifles will be available on the firing line and are to remain on that
firing point. .30-.06 ball ammunition and .223 ball ammunition will
be sold at cost and issued on the firing line. Shooters may use
their own rifle and ammunition. Targets will be assigned.
*New Shooter Equipment Suggestion:
1. A mat or pad to lie on for prone firing
2. A spotting scope or binoculars
3. Knapsack or duffel type bag to carry loose equipment
4. A shooting coat or at least two sweatshirts to help absorb rifle recoil
5. A left-hand glove (right-handed shooters) - a right hand glove (left-handed
shooters)
6. Bring food, snack and drink. No breaks taken.
7. Rain gear.
8. Something to sit on
9. Clipboard, notepad and pencils.
10. EAR AND EYE PROTECTION are MANDATORY.
General Range Information: Camping is available
on range and trailer electrical hook-ups are available. No food
or drink will be available for sale at the range, so come prepared.
